Information

Lachesis is the name of a Greek goddess who is responsible for the allocation of fate. In their musical theatre of the same name, librettist Hermann Schneider and composer Marijn Simons discuss the concept of freedom in a post-democratic state. The two artists create a dystopian cosmos of an ancient world projected into the future. As Plato predicted, democracy has meanwhile turned into tyranny. As a counter-reaction to reason-oriented bourgeois democracy, the irrational is booming. In combination with increased faith in science and the new orientation category of "opinion", a mixture has been created that has given birth to a new myth: the future man, who constructs himself from the genetic reproduction of biomass and projections of consciousness.

Lachesis unabashedly poaches in the realm of pop-cultural myths, science fiction and Hollywood cinema, thus opening up the playful space of a political contemporary theatre.
