Information
In 2016, Gisle Kverndokk and Øystein Wiik wrote the award-winning musical Around the World in 80 Days for Landestheater Linz. A few years ago, they were given the exclusive rights to adapt Ingmar Bergman's famous family story as a musical, which, after a two-year delay due to the pandemic, is finally coming to the Schauspielhaus stage, directed by musical director Matthias Davids. A homage to theatre, a celebration of life and a commitment to an open society.
Sweden 1907: The world of the Ekdahl family comes apart at the seams when theatre director Oscar Ekdahl dies unexpectedly. His young widow Emilie marries Bishop Edvard Vergérus and moves with the children Alexander and Fanny into Edvard's residence, where he rules with icy severity. When it becomes clear how much the children are suffering, the rest of the family does everything they can to bring Emilie, Fanny and Alexander back to them. It takes a spectacular rescue operation including magic and a lot of imagination until Emilie returns to the bosom of the family with her children.
