Information

The royal court is in a frenzy: No bride is good enough for the king's son. Suddenly a young princess appears and the prince immediately falls in love with her. But things go wrong, because the queen, the nurse, the minister and the chancellor are not sure whether this princess is really of the highest nobility. They agree to put her to the test. The only question is how best to go about it. Then the nurse has the brilliant idea: a raw pea should help to tease out the truth about the girl. But can it succeed? Can a tiny pea really provide the answer to such an important and big question? Experience it for yourself when you join us at the Music Theatre for a performance of The Princess and the Pea.

The composer Ernst Toch was born in Vienna in 1887 and started a promising career. In 1927, he premiered his Princess and the Pea, which makes such a sympathetic impression because it takes its child audience seriously and treats them to music that is stylistically at the height of the time.
