Carlo Goldoni is considered both one of the funniest comedy writers and one of the liveliest librettists of the 18th century. His librettos are just as full of fun as they are of emotional confusion, giving composers ample opportunity to develop a broad spectrum of expression in their music.

You can now see this for yourself when the Opera Studio performs an opera by Giuseppe Scarlatti based on a text by Goldoni. This work, which had its successful premiere in Venice in 1752 under the original title I portentosi effetti della madre natura (The Wondrous Effects of Mother Nature), combines everything a good comedy needs: Colorful characters, mistaken identities, lively intrigues and, of course, “sex and crime”. So you can look forward to the wonderfully naive Prince Celidoro, who not only stumbles from one amorous adventure to the next on Mallorca, but also has to reclaim his fathers' throne from a cunning tyrant.
