Information
Henry Mason and Thomas Zaufke brought the Landestheater sold-out performances with Der Hase mit den Bernsteinaugen, rave reviews and four German Musical Theatre Awards, including one for Best Musical. Commissioned by the Landestheater, they are now developing a musical thriller about The Queens Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I of England.
The fatefully interwoven biographies of the grand cousins are traced like a kaleidoscope. Throughout their lives, both women had to struggle to assert themselves in the Elizabethan world of men. They pursued very different strategies: Elizabeth styled herself as the "Virgin Queen" so as not to diminish her power through marriage. Mary, on the other hand, felt compelled to secure her position as Queen of Scotland through marriage. Intrigue and the unfortunate choice of husband led to murder, scandal and finally Mary's flight to England, where she was placed under house arrest by Elizabeth and executed after 20 years in prison.
A dramatic material for a great new musical, directed by Simon Eichenberger (Titanic).
