Information
After the October Revolution, the family of the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II is assassinated by a Bolshevik attack. According to legend, by chance the only family member to survive is the youngest daughter Anastasia. Her grandmother, Grand Duchess Maria Fyodorovna, promises a large reward to whoever finds Anastasia. The impostors Dimitry and Vlad try to obtain the money by using a double of the tsar's daughter. The street sweeper Anya, who suffers from amnesia, is just what they need, because she looks just like Anastasia ...
The successful 1997 animated film was adapted for the stage a short time later by the Ragtime team Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. The authors agreed that the musical should also appeal to an adult audience. The legend of the survival of the Tsar's daughter Anastasia is told in a more historically coherent way and thus provides the basis for a real family musical, which has been shown more than 800 times on Broadway and can now be seen in Austria for the first time.
