Information

The world-famous opera Carmen by Georges Bizet (1838-1875) served theater director Peter Brook as a model for a condensed version of this story about love, jealousy and death. Carmen, who flirts blatantly with all the men around her, turns the head of the sergeant Don José to such an extent that he becomes a deserter and ultimately a murderer because of her. The celebrated torero Escamillo also has to defend himself against Don José's jealousy with the help of Carmen. But fate has decided that Carmen's life should end tragically. So not only does Escamillo, whom Carmen has chosen, die at the hands of a bull, but she also meets her death at the hands of Don José.

Marius Constant skillfully reworked the arias of Bizet's musical model into delicate miniatures and never lets the music fall silent throughout the piece. In this version, the audience can't help but be spellbound from the very first minute as they await the end of this tragedy.
