Information

Belgian choreographer Jeroen Verbruggen is internationally renowned for his reinterpretations of classical themes for large dance ensembles. With TANZ LINZ, he presents his personal exploration of the ancient myth of Cupid and Psyche.

At the heart of the piece is Psyche’s quest for self-love as a prerequisite for loving another. In the striking finale, the intriguing question mark in the title finds its resolution. For the eternal question of why we are drawn into this wild whirlwind of emotions time and again ultimately points toward the search for true love and the desire for a fulfilling partnership full of pleasure, joy, and passion.

In this creation, Verbruggen blends finely nuanced choreography with humor and a keen eye for detail. Accompanied by the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the musical framework spans a wide range of associations—from Charles Ives and Gabriel Fauré to a Greek pop hit by Alkistis Protopsalti.
