Adam und Eva

The Linz Landestheater was given the great honor of producing the world premiere of Mike Svoboda's Adam and Eve for the Schwetzingen SWR Festival, one of the world's most renowned festivals for contemporary chamber operas.

This production can now also be experienced in the BlackBox this fall. The libretto by Anne-May Krüger draws on the 1972 comedy of the same name by the East German writer Peter Hacks, who surprised the audience by transforming the biblical story of the fall of man into a comedy. It was his eye for the absurdities of existence, trained by everyday life in the GDR, that enabled him to reveal the humor in the biblical story in a linguistically virtuoso form. At the same time, he created a sharp-tongued plea for human freedom in his comedy Adam and Eve. With his characteristic irony, Mike Svoboda has created a musical theater version of Hacks' text that is as congenial as it is virtuosic and multi-layered, which the celebrated and sought-after director Andrea Moses brings to the stage with no less humor and allusions.
