Information

In Prometheus, Spanish choreographer Antonio Ruz combines one of the oldest myths in European cultural history with contemporary questions of our time. Prometheus is the Titan who brings fire to humanity - a symbol of knowledge, art, and progress - and is punished for it. The starting point is Beethoven’s famous ballet The Creatures of Prometheus (1801), created for the Vienna Court Theatre.

Ruz relocates this story into the present day: Prometheus becomes a creator who brings two artificial beings to life. In a world where technology and artificial intelligence occupy an ever-growing space, these beings learn through movement, music, and encounter what it means to be human - to feel, to take responsibility, and to become part of a community. The choreographic journey leads from contemporary spaces into an archaic, organic world in which the body takes centre stage.

Carried by the dancers of TANZ LINZ, Prometheus combines Beethoven’s original score, performed by the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, with new soundscapes to create an evening of dance about creation, progress, and responsibility.
