Information
Emmerich Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin is truly a sparkling jewel of the operetta genre. This is evident from the plot alone, which presents an entertaining blend of grand emotions, exuberant humor, a risqué nightlife setting, and the glittering world of the aristocracy. At its heart is the love story between the celebrated chanson singer Sylva Varescu and the high-born aristocrat Edwin - a romance that nearly collapses under the weight of social differences.
Kálmán’s music captures the emotional range of the story with remarkable finesse, combining a characteristically melancholic tone of longing with genuine lightness and rousing dance rhythms. It hardly needs to be said that almost every number in the score became a hit and that in Linz, this highlight of the genre is in the best possible hands with operetta specialist Thomas Enzinger as director.
