Richard Wagner’s monumental opera Lohengrin stands at the threshold of his characteristic music drama, unfolding a gripping pull through its dense interplay of emotion, politics, and mystery. The fragile balance between the work’s charged historical context and its almost fairy-tale-like premise is a key part of its enduring appeal. For the new production in Linz, director Michael Schulz—who has already demonstrated his keen sense for ambivalence with Elektra - takes on this challenge.
